BT138 is a sensitive gate triac suitable for direct coupling to TTL, HTL, CMOS, and applications such as various logic functions, low power AC switching applications, such as fan speed, small light controllers, and home appliances equipment.
These devices are intended for use in applications requiring high bidirectional transient and blocking voltage capability
The triac is a three-terminal semiconductor device used to control the average current flow to a load. It conducts in both directions and can be blocked by voltage reversal or by dropping the current below a holding value. The triac can be triggered independently of the gate bias, that is, by a positive or negative gate current.
When the triac is conducting, there is a very low resistance current flow path from one terminal to the other, the direction of flow depending on the polarity of the applied external voltage.
The BT138-600 is a passivated, planar, quadrant triac designed for applications requiring high blocking voltage capability and bidirectional transients and high thermal cycling performance. Typical applications include heating and static switching.
